How many farms are there in the U.S.?

As of the latest data from the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), there are an estimated 1,865,000 farms in the United States. This represents a continuing, gradual decline in American agricultural operations, down 15,000 farms from the previous year.
- Small/Hobby Farms: Roughly 48% of all farms generate less than $10,000 in annual sales.
- Mid-Sized Farms: About 30.8% generate between $10,000 and $100,000 in annual sales.
- Large Commercial Farms: Only 9.9% of farms bring in sales of $500,000 or more, yet they operate over half (50.1%) of all available U.S. farmland.
