Sprouts Farmers Market Opens 500th Store, Expanding Fresh-Focused Retail Network

Sprouts Farmers Market has reached a major milestone with the opening of its 500th store in The Woodlands, Texas, marking another step in the specialty grocer’s national expansion while maintaining its emphasis on fresh produce, natural foods and relationships with regional growers.

The new location opened Sept. 12 at 4775 W. Panther Creek Drive, bringing the Phoenix-based retailer’s footprint to 25 states. The milestone comes as Sprouts continues expanding its network of specialty grocery stores built around fresh, natural and organic products, with produce serving as a centerpiece of its merchandising strategy.

“Reaching 500 stores is an incredible milestone for Sprouts, and one that reflects the passion of our thousands of team members, the loyalty of customers and the strong relationships we’ve built in the communities we serve,” said Nick Konat, president and chief operating officer of Sprouts.

“From our first store to our 500th, our mission has remained the same: helping people live and eat better and we’re excited to continue bringing Sprouts’ fresh, better-for-you assortment to even more communities in the years ahead.”

The Woodlands location follows the company’s established retail model, with an emphasis on seasonal produce, organic fruits and vegetables, healthy proteins, prepared foods and specialty grocery products. Sprouts operates more than 500 stores nationwide and employs approximately 36,000 team members.

For produce suppliers, the retailer’s expansion is particularly notable because of its commitment to working with local and regional growers. The company identified J&B Farms and Little Bear Produce among the agricultural partners supporting its efforts to source fresh produce for customers in the area.

Those partnerships allow Sprouts to feature locally grown fruits and vegetables alongside products sourced from other growing regions, providing shoppers with seasonal selections while supporting regional agricultural businesses.

The new store will also participate in Sprouts’ Food Rescue program, which redirects unsold but still edible groceries to organizations serving people experiencing food insecurity. The Woodlands location will donate eligible products to the Houston Food Bank, extending the retailer’s food recovery efforts into the surrounding community.

To celebrate the opening, Sprouts hosted a weekend of activities that included product sampling, reusable tote giveaways, complimentary roses and special offers for shoppers joining its loyalty program.

The opening comes amid continued expansion for Sprouts, which also announced new stores in Mesa, Arizona; Carson, California; and Sewell, New Jersey, during September.

For the produce industry, the 500-store milestone illustrates the scale Sprouts has achieved with a retail format that places fresh fruits and vegetables at the center of the shopping experience.

As the company continues entering new markets, its growing network creates additional opportunities for regional farms and produce suppliers to connect with shoppers seeking fresh, seasonal and specialty products.
