WELCOME TO THE PRODUCE FLAVOR ZONE: What does an Avocado taste like?

An avocado is a pear-shaped fruit that grows on a tree and sometimes called an alligator pear because of its bumpy skin. Avocados are a healthy superfood rich in vitamins and are high in potassium.
Avocados do not ripen while still on the trees. They are harvested hard and will soften and ripen after being picked.
A ripe avocado has a rich, mild, buttery, nutty cream flavor. The most popular Hass variety has a delicate almond-like flavor when ripened. Its high healthy content of monounsaturated fats gives it a velvety smooth taste.
A ripe avocado is naturally free of sodium, sugar, and cholesterol. A gentle squeeze of lemon or lime juice, salt, or garlic will add an extra flavor to them. They are also outstanding as a guacamole dip.
A ripe avocado should be thick, dense, smooth, and easily melt in the mouth. Unripe is hard, watery, bitter, and completely tasteless. An overripe avocado is musky, sour, and rancid.
Avocados are found on large displays in every supermarket produce department. They are regularly promoted in weekly ad flyers as well.
