Market Minute: Bell peppers plentiful for promotion

There’s some positive news in the produce industry. Although we’ve faced tight markets, rising trucking costs driven by higher diesel prices and weather challenges that cut crop yields, things are beginning to stabilize. As May transitions into summer, warmer temperatures are helping crops return to normal growth patterns. In several regions, supply volumes are slowly improving, though some areas remain limited. With favorable weather, production progress should continue in the coming weeks.
Green Bell peppers are consistently available in Florida, California and Mexico, with Georgia about to begin shipments soon. California is seeing moderate demand with a stable market, while Mexican peppers are in high demand and also stable. Overall, quality is strong.
Colored Bell peppers are amply supplied from Florida and Mexico. Hot house Bell peppers are also reliably coming from Canada and Mexico.
Mini sweet snacking peppers are reported to be in steady supply with good quality.
Chili peppers from Mexico are in very limited supply, and California is only beginning to ship small amounts.
